Topaz will be promoting the latest enhancements to Topaz EMS and Topaz Web portal at Softworld HRP hosted at the Novotel Hammersmith on the 27th February 2008.

The Topaz EMS system has continued to be developed in all areas of the application building on the new functionality released October 2007. Last year multi contracts were introduced to the payroll module to handle employees having more than one job with differing terms and conditions.

Since then further functionality has been added to handle those awkward Net Payments that sometimes happen in the payroll environment. Simple entry of a net value against an employee will calculate out the gross payment value and retain the employer’s tax and NI liability on behalf of the employee for future reporting. The tax year end has brought with it the introduction to Topaz EMS of eFiling for in year forms (P46, P45 part 1 and 3) as well as Works Number Update (WNU). This is in addition to functionality to handle the Bankruptcy & Diligence Bill (Scotland) Act 2006 which also takes effect from April 2008

All the development has not just been within the payroll module though as exciting new functionality has been introduced to the Web Portal to further enhance the employee management, and employee portal features. In particular the established Topaz EMS T&A module now has a presence in the Web Portal allowing the Line managers to handle employee shift allocation, clocking exceptions, and absence management all through a graphical web based process. The development has been focused specifically at the retail environment, although the advantages of being able to quickly deploy functionality of this sort is of benefit to all business sectors.

The employee aspect of the web portal has also had new functionality added to allow access to Job History and related salary details, qualification and skills history, and published Remuneration Statements. Employee qualifications and skills are relevant information in any business, but not always easy to compile. The Topaz EMS Web Portal allows employees to view any information currently held on the database and register any additional details that may be relevant.

As with all employee entered information an authorisation trail is then followed before the data is posted to the database to ensure data integrity. Remuneration statements can now be defined within the application to draw together details from the payroll, benefits, holiday/sickness schemes as well freetype text to cover indirect benefits. All of these go together provide the employee with a statement of benefits for their particular role. Statements can either be published in paper form or in to the web portal. The latter providing each employee with a history by year of remuneration.
